The Yes Men Go to Copenhagen

December 18, 2009

The Yes Men admitted to launching a ‘complicated hoax’ to expose their feelings that Canada was not doing enough to combat greenhouse gas emissions, during the Copenhagen Summit. According to a  CBC Report, “A first fake announcement released around 8 a.m. ET Monday claiming to originate from Environment Canada said Canada had drastically changed its greenhouse gas emission reduction targets to levels preferred by environmentalists. The cuts in emissions cited were significantly greater than those Canada has publicly committed to….The email also provided links to a fake website designed to mirror the appearance of the Environment Canada website. However, its address was at http://www.enviro-canada.ca and not http://www.ec.gc.ca, the actual address of the ministry.”

The convoluted and very successful media prank is documented here on the Yes Men’s site.
