CFS on CR Consult

The Canadian Federation of Students released a press release on August 28 calling for fair copyright and fair copyright consultations:

“Students have been clear in their demand for fair copyright,” said Shelley Melanson, Chairperson of the Canadian Federation of Students-Ontario. “New copyright legislation must carefully regulate technological protection measures, eliminate Crown copyright and provide a more flexible definition of fair dealing.”

At a Toronto Copyright Consultation students who attempted to distribute a leaflet on copyright were approached by private security guards who threatened to remove them if they did not stop distributing their leaflet. As Michael Geist comments,  “It is hard to understand how distributing relevant materials outside a public, government-run townhall is viewed as grounds for ejection.” The CFS  copyright leaflet can be found here.
